Rethinking Design in the Age of AI

Join a growing community of designers exploring how AI is reshaping creativity, collaboration, and the meaning of design itself.

Insightful, human, and beautifully crafted.

Your UX portfolio homepage is your digital first impression.

You've got 5 seconds to impress the recruiters. Max.

But most designers treat their homepage like an afterthought when it’s actually...

Their #1 sales page 🤦🏻‍♂️

So let me show you my step-by-step plan to take you from "meh" to "must-hire" in just one week.

First up: Positioning that packs a punch.

Ditch the fluff.
Don't be overly generic.
Get crystal clear on what you actually do.

Think: "I turned confused users into raving superfans" not "I make things useful”

Next: Metrics, baby!

Evidence is everything.
Prove you're not just another designer.
Show those sweet, sweet numbers that make CEOs swoon.

"Increased conversion rates by 30%" > "Created delightful experiences"

Now, special ingredient: CTAs that prompt action.

Forget "click here" or "view portfolio".
Lacks imagination.
Just boring!

Try "How I boosted revenue by $2M" instead. 🤑

Finally: Testimonials that tell a story.

Don't include the "great job!" nonsense.
Don't screenshot a long ass email.
Get specific, get human, get real!

"Sarah's redesign slashed our support tickets by 40%" beats "They completed the task on time" any day of the week.

...

So whatcha waiting for?

Your dream job is waiting. Go grab it before your competition does!

🔥 HOT THIS WEEK

The goings ons

Happenings & shenanigans in the (design) world and beyond

Grammarly is changing its name to Superhuman. They're repositioning the company to a suite of AI tools, not just your always-on spell checker. Now you're able to get Grammarly, Mail, Meeting Notes, and an AI agent named Go, all under one subscription.

And the folks behind this new rebrand? My favourite agency Smith & Diction and they wrote a full case study about it! It's not often we see a buyer taking the buyee's name. Is this a good look?

Figma just acquired Weavy. What is Weavy? An infinite canvas for your creative workflow. Imagine using multiple AI models to refine your output, from prompt to video, and everything else in-between.

What does that mean? At the moment, not a lot. BUT by Config next year (probably) would've integrated into the Figma Suite. Read more

Earlier this year, Perplexity acquired Visual Electric. We're seeing cool AI creative tools being swallowed up by the giants. Is this good for the industry or not?

First episode of This is Taste is out. Featuring Ridd from your favourite design podcast Dive Club. Tommy Geoco calls him Design's Best Trendspotter. Do you agree?

Honestly, this episode it's so inspiring. This is a masterclass in storytelling. I can't wait for more episodes on some of the best designers/creatives in our industry! Instant sub.

So you wanna be a UX designer?

Play of the Week newsletter by Chris Newsletter issue: #180Read time: 1m 48s Zach, a newsletter reader asked me: "Hey Chris! I'm a senior graphic designer transitioning to UX. Advice?" Oh boy. Where to start? Look, I've been there. Back in 2014, jobless, no savings, crashing at my grandparents' place. Not a vibe. From “I’ll design anything” to UX Lead in 6 months wasn't an accident. I spent time understanding what good UX actually is. Lesson #1: Pretty doesn't equal usable. Your perfect UI...

The Introvert Advantage

Play of the Week newsletter by Chris Newsletter issue: #179Read time: 1m 23s Quick story: In 2019, I was managing 20+ designers across 4 countries. The best designer on my team? Super quiet dude who barely spoke in meetings. But his work? 🔥 Here's the problem with most design teams today: We're building echo chambers of extroverts who can "sell" their mediocre ideas better than introverts can present their brilliant ones. I call it the "Peacock Problem" The loudest designers get promoted, not...

Why You Should Stop Reading Only UX Design Content

Play of the Week newsletter by Chris Newsletter issue: #178Read time: 1m 27s When I started my design career, I was obsessed. I was the kid with 27 browser tabs open, all UX blogs. Atomic Design book on standby. Design Details podcast on repeat. Design Sprint playlist queued up. I thought I was being productive. I was actually being an idiot. Then I finally realized something: The designers making an impact weren't just design nerds. They were business-savvy creative psychologists who could...
