Quick story: In 2019, I was managing 20+ designers across 4 countries.

The best designer on my team?

Super quiet dude who barely spoke in meetings.

But his work? πŸ”₯

Here's the problem with most design teams today:

We're building echo chambers of extroverts who can "sell" their mediocre ideas better than introverts can present their brilliant ones.

I call it the "Peacock Problem"

The loudest designers get promoted, not necessarily the best ones.

You: "But Chris, don't we need charismatic designers who can present their work?"

Me: "Ever heard of Steve Wozniak, J.K. Rowling, or Albert Einstein?"

All introverts.
All changed the damn world.

The traditional interview process is literally DESIGNED to filter out introverts:

  • Small talk over meaningful conversation
  • Quick-thinking over deep thinking
  • Improvisation over preparation
  • Performance over substance

It's like trying to find the best swimmer by hosting a competition on land.

We're doing it ALL wrong.

Introverts aren't broken extroverts who need fixing.

They're deep thinkers with superpowers:

  • They notice details others miss
  • They listen before speaking
  • They prepare like crazy
  • They consider all angles
  • They don't waste your time with bullshit

While extroverts are still talking about what they think, introverts have already solved the problem.

I know, I sound extra passionate about this.

Why?

Because I've been on both sides:

  • The quiet designer who got overlooked
  • The leader who almost overlooked quiet designers

Here's a radical thought:

What if the greatest design mind of our generation isn't on LinkedIn or X or speaking at conferences?

What if they're quietly working away, building incredible things, while we're too busy listening to whoever talks the loudest?

Time to fix this.

Check out my article β€” it’s a blueprint for building a hiring process that values all personality types and helps teams discover overlooked design talent.

Apple has a new product! It's not what you think. It's a sling. $150 will get you a "iPhone Pocket". Designed but the same company who created Steve Jobs’ iconic black turtleneck.

You getting one? I'm still on the fence tbh. More info here

Steam just announced: Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and the Steam Frame. New-gen hardware from the gaming company we love. I know, I'm geeking out too.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. Steam Machine has a console-like form factor and the ability to play your Steam Library. 4K gaming at 60 FPS.
  2. Steam Controller has 35 hours of playtime, and a handy Puck included in the packaging for easy connectivity and charging.
  3. Steam Frame is a VR headset offering a comfortable design, the ability to stream VR and non-VR games from your Steam Library through a wireless dongle.

All launches in in 2026. Watch the trailer below for more deetz.

Would you use Michael Caine voice? Voice AI has been everywhere this year, but the real breakthrough happened quietly: voices are becoming digital assets.

For the first time, talent, creators, and brands can legally license, monetize, and scale a human voice across every content format. Is this the rise of the Voice Rights economy? If so, Eleven Labs are leading the charge.

Play of the Week newsletter by Chris Newsletter issue: #180Read time: 1m 48s Zach, a newsletter reader asked me: "Hey Chris! I'm a senior graphic designer transitioning to UX. Advice?" Oh boy. Where to start? Look, I've been there. Back in 2014, jobless, no savings, crashing at my grandparents' place. Not a vibe. From β€œI’ll design anything” to UX Lead in 6 months wasn't an accident. I spent time understanding what good UX actually is. Lesson #1: Pretty doesn't equal usable. Your perfect UI...

Why You Should Stop Reading Only UX Design Content

Play of the Week newsletter by Chris Newsletter issue: #178Read time: 1m 27s When I started my design career, I was obsessed. I was the kid with 27 browser tabs open, all UX blogs. Atomic Design book on standby. Design Details podcast on repeat. Design Sprint playlist queued up. I thought I was being productive. I was actually being an idiot. Then I finally realized something: The designers making an impact weren't just design nerds. They were business-savvy creative psychologists who could...
